There are so many people that head out on winter vacations every year to either get away from the cold weather, get away from too many family dinners, or just get away. But with all of the beautiful winter vacation destinations out there, how do you pick the right one for your family to enjoy? It can be an overwhelming task, and one that you shouldn’t take lightly either. Keep in mind that if you pick the wrong winter vacation spot, you will have a disasterous time, yet choose the right one and your family will have the vacation of a lifetime. To help you determine where your next winter vacation should be, let’s go through some simple questions and tips to narrow down your choices:
1. Budget: This is the first area that you need to nail down when starting your search for a winter vacation destination. Know how much you have to spend and what you want to spend on your winter getaway and you can easily narrow down choices by knocking some more expensive ones off of your list. Plus, you’ll be able to determine how far you can travel and what type of vacation rentals and activities you can enjoy.
2. Family Likes & Dislikes: Yet another biggie. You don’t want to book a cruise when your family is afraid of water, so you need to know exactly what their likes and dislikes are when it comes to vacation activities and so forth. If you aren’t sure, it’s ok to have everyone sit down and talk about what they want to do and what they don’t want to do on your winter vacation. This way, you can narrow down your choices again by simply ruling out those areas where there are more dislikes than likes.
3. Activities: When you have a few areas in mind for your winter vacation destinations, check into what activities are around for you to enjoy at that time of year. For example, if you want to go diving, can you? If you want to go to amusement parks, are they open? If you want to go snow skiing, are the slopes good? There are so many factors that go into finding the right winter vacation spot that has the activities that you all want to do so make sure that you do your homework on this part of your winter vacation destination.
4. Accomodations: Now that you’ve narrowed it down a bit more on where you want to go and what you want to do on your winter getaway, let’s chat about accomodations. Resorts and hotels are going to be expensive as all getout during winter vacation peak times, so what do you do? Easy, you check into vacation home rentals in that area before you even consider booking anything else. Vacation home rentals can offer your family so much more that you would never get at a hotel – such as hot tubs, pools, video game consoles, private beaches, and more. Plus, you have your own kitchen to save on money from eating out constantly and you don’t have housekeeping knocking your door in at 7 am.
Once you have used these four simple tips to help you narrow down your winter vacation areas for your family trip, you should easily be able to pick between the few destinations on your list to ensure that youahve the best family winter vacation possible. When you’re ready to check out thousands of great vacation home rentals, ReserveMy Home offers some of the very best ones possible in all areas of the US and some beautiful warm island destinations. Don’t book your winter vacation until you have taken the time to really plan it out and find that perfect spot for you and your family.
My parents bought the video tape when I was a baby and I grow up with this movie. It’s pure fun, also because every young family imagines itself to substitute the Griswolds in the film and have a similar (dis-)adventure. It would be great to me!

And then, you gotta admitt, Chevy “Clark” Chase is in our hearts especially for that film [reminding when I was young, lost time]. Oh God, Time Flies
Greetings from Italy!
Do you realize how cheap some vacations are between European countries? I live in the Czech Republic, and one of the best reasons for staying here is that I can easily travel all around the Continent, cheaply and quickly.
Check out some nice trip to Portugal or Spain. That is close, and you'll have a ball. They have good beaches, but if you go to Portugal, make sure it's in the summer season, because the ocean will be too cold otherwise.
In Spain, I would suggest the Costa del Sol. Head to Torremolinos or Malaga. It's very pleasant there, and the beaches are good.
Go to the Caribbean some other time when guilt won't be weighing you down like an anchor.

I always feel that for some reason it was much better being in your teens and twenties in the 80s than today.
What was it like to be 25 and under in the 80’s ?
I’d love to go skinny dipping with Christie Brinkley. Eeven today she’s smokin hot in her 50s
The previous reponder's advice about not having a step-by-step plan is wrong! The worst thing you can do is stand around in the middle a park holding a map and argue with your family about where to go and what to do next. That causes stress!
Me, my wife, and 2 sons aged 10 and 9, had our first Disney World vaction in July, '08.
With having to spend that kind of money for something we probably won't get to do again for several more years, I researched and planned almost to a fault. We bought the airline tickets 9 months in advance and the park tickets 6 months in advance. In the months leading up to the trip, I spent countless hours researching the internet on Disney's website, allears.net, yahooanswers.com, and anywhere else I could find Disney information. I bought "The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World 2008" and studied the attractions available, places to eat, and anything else that looked like fun.
Finally, to create the final itenerary, I went to the Disney website to see what days each park had extra magic hours. Since we were not staying on property, I scheduled to AVOID those days. We used the touring plans in the guide book at each park. The boys were instructed that after we finished the plans, they were free to go back and ride their favorite rides, but we were finishing the plan first! I estimated where we might be around lunch time in each park and looked for the highest rated restaurants in each park.
By the way, the guidebook we bought is the absolute best money I spent in preparation for our trip. Using the touring plans we never waited more than 15 minutes for any ride! Yes, even during July! If you've never used it, go buy it now. You won't be disappointed.
Not all plans are absolutely perfect. We had a few hiccups. Our flight out to Orlando was moved up to a 7:00 a.m. departure, and our return flight was cancelled all together! We stayed in a hotel the night before near the airport so we could park-and-fly out and had to find another hotel in Orlando the night before coming back since we had to schedule a return flight the day after we originally planned on coming back. I did not take my own advice and went to Hollywood Studios on an extra magic hours evening so my wife could watch Fantasmic on her birthday. While we loved the show, we won't ever go to a park on extra magic hours again because it was so crowded in the evening you literally had trouble moving around the park!
Anyway, I may have overplanned a bit, but I wanted everything to be as perfect as possible. I think I did a good job, because as we were leaving, by boys asked when we could come back. Anyway, with realistic expectations and planning, any trip to Disney will be memorable.
Hey, if you like Chevy Chase, check out the movie Fletch. In this movie, he is the best liar i’ve ever seen as he lies his way through everything LOL
Absolutely have cut down on expected vacation travel. I don't think the tourist eco will crash, though. People will either carpool to these places or go to the tourist traps close to home. As far as the hotels, I do think they will take a major hit. Like wise with the airlines, but I think the others will be fine.
What will you do on your short trip? Probably go to a local tourist attraction.
I have a Wagon Queen Family Truckster and I Love it. I don’t know why Clark had so many problems.
i always thought that he had the hottest wife on the planet
Almost all police officers are union, so the vacation would be determined by the union contract, which is negotiated.
Our department gets 8 days your first year, and 14 days your second year through your fifth year.
You also have the option of taking your overtime in compensatory (comp) time. For every hour overtime, you get 1 1/2 hours comp time. The newer officers usually do this to supplement their vacation.
You would have to call the department you are interested in to see what their contract allows.
Summer holidays are end June to beginning of August, then there's the Høst ferie which is the last week in September, then two weeks at Christmas, the week long winter holiday in February, easter which is 2 weeks and then odd days for 1st may, 17th May, Ascension Sunday.
It will depend on if you are at a state school or an international or private school though.
My favorite saying is "Pick a park, and go camping"!
